Huntsmans Continued Commitment to Sanitation Helps Bakrol Village Become Open Defecation Free

~ Constructs 57 additional toilets as a part of phase II of its sanitation initiative, thereby driving up the count to 117 toilets ~

Ankleshwar, Gujarat, October 14, 2018: Huntsman, the global manufacturer and marketer of differentiated chemicals renewed its commitment to sanitation by constructing 57 additional individual household latrines (IHHLs) at Bakrol village, Ankleshwar in Gujarat today. Huntsman’s CSR initiative, through its first phase, benefitted nearly 60 households in Bakrol village. Under the second phase, the initiative will impact another 57 households, resulting in Bakrol village now becoming open defecation free.   

In addition to the construction of toilets, Huntsman also aims to educate the community on the importance of good sanitation and hygiene. Under Huntsman’s Information, Education and Communication (IEC) program, informative sessions were conducted on the benefits of using toilets, the ill effects of open defecation, and maintenance techniques.
 
Commenting on the second phase of the initiative, Mr. Rayomand Sabawalla, Finance Director – Advanced Materials Division, and Head - CSR Committee, India Subcontinent, Huntsman Corporation said, “We are delighted to have continued supporting the sanitation drive for the people of Bakrol. In line with the government’s Swachh Bharat Mission, we have strived towards improving the health, safety and dignity of all families residing in the village. The first phase of our initiative in Bakrol helped alter mindsets on hygiene in addition to the improvement of infrastructure. We thank Anarde Foundation for having supported us on this project in order to achieve greater impact and look forward to continually contributing to the well-being of the community.”
    
The inaugural event was graced by Mr. Vipul Patel, Senior Site Manager –  Performance Products, Huntsman, and Ms. Urmilaben R Patel – Sarpanch and Ms. Ranjanben V Vasava – Talati from the Bakrol village.
